Editing Is Where Time Disappears

Most business owners spend 3-4 hours editing a single video. With the right workflows, templates, and organization systems, you can cut that to under 45 minutes—without sacrificing quality.

File Organization System

The Folder Structure That Saves Hours

📁 Project Name - Date

📁 01_RAW (original footage)

📁 02_AUDIO (music, SFX, voiceover)

📁 03_GRAPHICS (logos, lower thirds, overlays)

📁 04_PROJECT (editing software files)

📁 05_EXPORTS (final rendered videos)

📁 06_THUMBNAILS (cover images)

📄 NOTES.txt (script, timestamps, revisions)

Use this exact structure for every project. Consistency eliminates the "where did I put that?" problem permanently.

Template Everything

Create reusable templates for every recurring video format. A template should include your intro, lower thirds, transition style, color grade preset, and outro—all pre-built and ready to drop footage into.

Speed Tips

The Three-Pass Editing Method

Pass 1: Assembly Cut (15 min)

Drag all usable footage to timeline in order. Remove obvious bad takes. Don't worry about fine cuts—just get the story structure right.

  • J/K/L — Reverse / Pause / Play
  • I/O — Set in/out points
  • C — Cut/razor tool
  • V — Selection tool
  • Ctrl/Cmd + Z — Undo (your best friend)
  • Edit at 1.5-2x playback speed for rough cuts
  • Use markers to flag important moments
  • Batch-apply color grades across clips
  • Use adjustment layers for global changes
  • Create custom shortcut profiles

Pass 2: Fine Cut (20 min)

Trim dead air, tighten pacing, add transitions and B-roll. Apply template elements. This is where the video takes shape.

Pass 3: Polish (10 min)

Color grade, audio levels, text overlays, captions, and final review. Export for target platform(s).
